You Are Right!
June 23, 2008
As I am preparing for the coming seminar, I inadvertently reflect back on my learnings since enrolling on this program. I remember my first arrow breaking experience, the first request for me to go sell a book at a shopping mall to strangers, my first experience of being stretched from my comfort zone to beyond the learning zone to the outrageous zone…..
I remember vividly the fear of anticipating pain, failure and embarrassment followed by the joy and relief of success and wild cheering of team mates when I determined to pull through and complete what I have started. That has translated into going out of my normal comfort zone in my daily personal and professional life.
It even surprised me that I was able to do that which I never thought I could accomplish. And it is no co incidence that I came across this quote yesterday, “One of the greatest discoveries a man makes, one of his great surprises, is to find he can do what he was afraid he couldn’t do.” That’s Henry Ford’s powerful discovery. If only we will give ourselves the chance to prove ourselves before we think it is too out of reach.
Really, we are amazing people with great potential, we will never know how much we can accomplish until we allow ourselves the opportunity to go to the limits. I invite you to look back at your life and cherish your successes; are you not surprised at how far you have come, how you have managed to overcome all the challenges that life has offered you?
Sis’ words came to mind, she asked a powerful question which got me thinking ”What is so difficult? It’s not as though you have not been through challenges before. Face it and go for it!”
Powerful question and powerful request, and it brought home a point. If I could overcome obstacles before, what excuse do I have that I can’t use the same principles and go a step further today? Yes, there are times when we are weary, disillusioned and disappointed at the “realities” of life, there are times when we think that we cannot go one step further and life will continue to test us only to grow us to be bigger persons. We need to cling onto the trust in ourselves, we have a big resevoir of potential and creativity within that we can tap into, we can do it!
I wonder what lessons I will learn this coming seminar. And I eagerly look forward to catching up with people who have grown with me through the months as we break self limiting thoughts and fears and learn many precious lessons.
“Whether you believe you can do a thing or not, you’re right” says Henry Ford. So what’s it going to be?
I’ll Start With The Starters
June 22, 2008
I have taken upon myself to work on a new project that takes quite a bit of learning on my part. In an attempt to accomplish as much as I can in the shortest possible time, and in my hunger for learning. I have packed my schedule rather tightly, immersing myself in studying the various subjects; reading, journaling, taking notes, listening to audio tapes and watching video tutorials.
I have always liked self-paced study – it is so scalable! I could go as fast as I want to. And it has been an incredible time, I have gathered so much in just a few weeks.
In a catch-up conversation with one of my fellow coaches (and a lovely friend now in cyber space), we touched on "and how have you been doing lately?". I was describing how overwhelmed I have been feeling lately and she rightly reflected back to me what she heard me saying.
She painted the picture of me running as fast as I possibly can, running with all my might and trying to "catch the train" that somehow just gets out of reach no matter how fast I ran! And I am surprised that I had not seen it in this light!
Am I glad we connected and had this conversation! She has since helped me take a few deep breaths and calmed me down. Everything happens for a reason, I am so glad we caught up at the right time and she helped me see where I was headed just in time. The timing could not have been better, it was almost like a scheduled session to put me back on track!
So in the frantic race with time, I was grabbing everything I can feast on from the buffet table. They all looked so delicious and inviting, I could not help but take in as much as I can. What I got was indigestion instead! No wonder I have not been feeling well lately!
My dear friend asked if I would consider taking a short break before I get onto the next train. Hmmm, I have not factored in any breaks or holidays but I will be out of town next week for a 5-day seminar.
The change in environment, the meeting of like minds and the various sessions will provide me with new stimulus and perspectives. I will come back refreshed and renewed and I will take it a step at a time.
I will work out my healthy and balanced diet plan with my coach and I will start my buffet with the starters (how complicated is that?)
And this time I will not have indigestion because we will work out what it is that I need at each stage so I will focus, focus, focus and I won’t be greedy or overwhelmed by all things good and delicious ….

You Craft Your Life With Coaching …
June 20, 2008
Coaching helps you design your own life. “Today can be the last day that you used to be for the past so many years or it can be the first day that you start creating and crafting your future”. This is a new motto I have for myself having modified it from the original that says “Tomorrow can be just another day of everything that has happened, or today can be the last day that I used to be for the past so many years“.
This is another valuable lesson I glean from Eben Pagan / Wyatt Woodsmall. These are such powerful and creative words as it brings out the power of choice in you, you decide, you choose how you want your life to unfold.
When I first started on my own journey of discovery, I did not know what it was that I really truly want. I had no idea how to answer the question “What is it that I am pursuing? What am I working so hard for? What is it that I want out of life?” or “What makes me happy?” I was “going with the flow” or more likely “floating” along where the current takes me.
I was not actively, consciously crafting my own future, the way I want my life to be, because I didn’t have a clear picture of where I was headed.
Since I started working with my own life coach, I have been able to address some of these fundamental questions as I began to know myself better. I am now empowered to take positive and active steps towards creating the life I want. And the journey has been insightful, colorful and exciting.
Coaching really is about self awareness, and learning about oneself so you can take the appropriate action toward the strategic goal which you set for yourself. The entire world can look different when you come to know yourself better. Things fall into perspectives. You are invited to think through issues that perhaps you have overlooked or not want to address. You are supported to start creating your own future as you embark on a journey of exploration and discovery. You may find out interesting and exciting potentials within yourself!
Coaching helps open you up to greater understanding of yourself. And there are various ways of participating in your coaching session. You can do that in person or if you prefer you can have that over the phone. You can do that on a one-on-one or in a group where you can also learn from others experience and find support in the group. It is often shared that coaching brings out your best potential and gives you practical action plan and the support structure so you can move towards your goal.
