Fireworks To Welcome New Hopes In The New Year
January 2, 2010
The highlights of New Year Count Down has got to be those fireworks. Cities around the world celebrated and welcomed the dawn of the new year with colorful and spectacular displays of fireworks.
What draw me to the fireworks are the colorful patterns and the sound of each blast as the flames shoot up to the sky. They rise up against gravity, they dispel darkness and give hope. Young and old, we are drawn by these flames that twirl and dance their way up with the backdrop of the night.
Fireworks has come a long way since its invention in ancient China around the 12th century to ward off evil spirits.
I welcome 2010 with its new hopes, possibilities and opportunities. And may we recall the magical displays of fireworks when we face darkness along the way.
Darkness is but the absence of light. Whatever shades of darkness surround you (and it will, for we live in a world of dualism), you can conquer it with being and doing the exact opposite.
Are you experiencing the darkness of doubts and fears? Of violence and injustice?
Darkness can not be conquered with more darkness. There is no point in returning darkness with darkness. Where there is light darkness will give way.
The darker the night, the brighter the stars will shine and the greater is the need to continue shinning. That is the predicament.
My wish for 2010 and the new decade is that more will be drawn to making conscious efforts to continually shine and be a light "doing what they can, where they are, with what they have".
Happy New Year and Happy Shinning!
Things To Be Thankful For …
October 12, 2009
It’s Thanksgiving Day in Canada. And frankly although I do not understand why the different countries have different days designated for the different occasions, I am just thankful that there is another day set aside for giving thanks.
So while we normally gather around to count our blessings, the message from this slideshow from TommysWindow.com will surely bring Thanksgiving to another level.
Set aside a good 5 minutes and let this slide show speak to you. I do not have the video version and so please be patient for the slides to download to your machine before it loads. Embrace this as it enriches your life.
Have a Wonderful Thanksgiving Day!

To Use Or To Love?
October 10, 2009
I received another story that I thought is great to share and to reflect upon. And after you read this, I love to hear your thoughts on this story, so go ahead and leave a comment!
Story Begins Here
While a man was polishing his new car, his 4 year old son picked up a stone and scratched lines on the side of the car. In anger, the man took the child’s hand and hit it many times not realizing he was using a wrench.
At the hospital, the child lost all his fingers due to multiple fractures. When the child saw his father, with painful eyes he asked, ‘Dad when will my fingers grow back?’ The man was so hurt and speechless; he went back to his car and kicked it a lot of times.
Devastated by his own actions and sitting in front of that car he looked at the scratches; the child had written ‘LOVE YOU DAD’. The next day that man committed suicide.
Anger and Love have no limits; choose the latter to have a beautiful, lovely life & remember this: Things are to be used and people are to be loved. The problem in today’s world is that people are used while things are loved.
Let’s try always to keep this thought in mind: Things are to be used, People are to be loved.
Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character;
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.
End Of Story
Reflection 1: We have many sophisticated and expensive toys: the iphone, that new designer’s evening gown or the suave car. It is easy to be too attached to these tools and forget that there are here to serve us.We also neglect to value the people around us, the people these tools are here to serve.
Those fingers will not grow again, and the scars in his heart will also remain. But a new car we can have anytime.
Reflection 2: Ending his own life did not help improve the situation, especially for the boy. This will leave a scar so deep in the child’s heart.
Often it takes greater courage to face our mistakes, and start afresh then to avoid dealing with the issues. Love for others will give us the courage to take the attention off ourselves and start over again for the sake of others – there is always a U turn. Yes, things will not be the same again, but the lesson learned will make us a better person.
Reflection 3: The secret to living an empowered life starts with having control over our thoughts. Nurture loving, empowering thoughts and we will live loving empowering lives.
Blessings and Love.
