Stress And Obesity In Children Rising


Research shows that children as young as 6 are obese and that childhood obesity has more than tripled in the past 30 years.


We know that overweight children are more likely to remain obese in their adulthood which often leaves them at a higher risk for developing various health issues, including Type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.


If rectification is not made, we can imagine the health issues this can bring.


Today there are more incentives for parents to set the tone for and implement lifestyle changes in the family. That would includes healthier eating habits and getting more physical activities. And it would also include teaching their children some stress management skills.


Research show that increase stress levels in children are linked to obesity. 


When teens are stressed by social, peer and examination pressure more stress hormones  are released causing physiological and behavioral changes, low morale and very often mindless comfort eating and inactivity which leads to obesity.


Childhood and teen depression and obesity is a rising concern and a serious issue. It is important and urgent that they learn some basic stress management and stress relief skills
